June 13 event features free educational programming, local performers, and an evening showcase with artist David Benoit.

The McCallum Theatre will host its inaugural Jazz Experience on Saturday, June 13, offering a full day of music, education, and live performance across multiple venues in Palm Desert.

The event begins at the Palm Desert Library with a free morning Jazz Lab designed for families and music enthusiasts of all ages. Starting at 9 a.m., the program includes a hands-on art workshop inspired by the work of Henri Matisse, followed by an interactive family concert at 11 a.m. featuring musicians from the Pacific Jazz Orchestra. Reservations are required for the morning session.

At 1 p.m., the Community Jazz Jam moves to the McCallum Theatre stage, showcasing local Coachella Valley talent. The program features student, amateur, and professional musicians selected through a valley-wide submission process and curated by Artistic Director Andy Fraga Jr. Confirmed performers include Palm Swings, Barnaby Finch and Jazzgrass, Sherry Williams, Kari Kirkland, and Will Donato. Festival-style wristbands are available for $15.

The day concludes at 7 p.m. with the Jazz Spotlight, featuring the Pacific Jazz Orchestra Quartet alongside Grammy-nominated pianist and composer David Benoit and vocalist Courtney Fortune. The evening program highlights accomplished jazz artists performing in the McCallum’s intimate theater setting. Tickets start at $33, with discounted options available for those attending both the afternoon and evening programs.

The Jazz Experience offers multiple ways for residents to take part, from free educational programming to accessible ticketed performances that highlight both local and nationally recognized artists.
